In Williamsburg, Virginia, an overhead door bell jingled. Away from the weaver, wheelwright, and wigmaker, a store offered yummy treats.
Samplings of handcrafted Virginia peanuts, chocolate-covered peanuts, peanut brittle, and additional salty and sweet combinations filled The Peanut Shop.
On a recent visit with my 3-year-old grandson, we approached a can of salted peanuts.
Open your hand.
Little fingers unfolded at the directive.
Limited in size, salty goobers toppled from the spoon to his hand and onto the floor. My larger hand enclosed his to secure the goodies. Three nuts captured; just enough to satisfy eyes and tastebuds.
God whispers, Open your hand.
Generous spoonfuls of blessings spill into open hands. Everyday miracles taken for granted: breath-filled lungs, meals for my belly, shoes on my feet, and a roof overhead.
Abundant blessings, too many to contain, overflow open hands: kindness from strangers, undeserved forgiveness, and an unexpected thank-you card from a friend.
More than I can comprehend or hold. God’s hands envelops mine. Hold tight, cling to these precious nuggets. Each one a reminder of my Great mercy, acceptance, and love.
When dark days appear, God reminds me: Look in your hands. See. Feel. Remember. Know.
Blessings linger in open hands.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 (NIV)
Overflow with hope, overflow with blessings.
Let’s approach 2020 with open hands. Open hands to receive God’s bounty of blessings.
Happy New Year!
