in their eyes

Where words are restrained, the eyes often talk a great deal. ~ Samuel Richardson

Without saying a word, their eyes spoke volumes. Was the haunting sadness caused by hunger, neglect, sickness, or the challenges children face in Kenya?

The unhappiness in their eyes generated tears in mine. Unable to erase the image of their mournful expressions, my husband and I sponsored the two little girls with downcast eyes through Compassion International.

Next year, we will fly 7,500 miles to hold and hug these precious girls.

When a stuffed bear snuggles in their arms, may eyes overflow with joy. When a soccer ball bounces around their feet, may eyes dance with delight. When giggles erupt during cell phone selfies, may eyes see beauty. When our hands envelops theirs, may eyes know and feel love.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NIV)

Trip preparation begins. Backpacks filled with clothing, school supplies, picture Bibles, and soccer balls. Two teddy bears with blue bows added.

But the greatest gift we can offer is Love. Without saying a word, may our eyes speak volumes of God’s Great Love.  Then, we will see Love reflected in their eyes.
